The economic rise to innovation leadership: An analysis of South Korea’s startup ecosystem

El presente estudio proporciona un análisis del ecosistema de emprendimiento en la República de Corea, explorando cómo este país del Este de Asia ha evolucionado del modelo denominado copycat a una posición de liderazgo en innovación. Para ello, se abordan las estrategias implementadas por Corea para lograr un crecimiento económico sostenido teniendo como columna vertebral la permanente promoción de la innovación científica y tecnológica, así como, recientemente, el fortalecimiento de su ecosistema de startups, apuntaladas tanto en una sólida política industrial como en una serie de políticas públicas que han sido fundamentales para que Corea pueda adaptarse a los diversos retos que ha enfrentado desde su fundación. En el presente trabajo se detallan las políticas gubernamentales que han catapultado el crecimiento de su economía, creando las bases para generar un robusto ecosistema para las startups. Profundizamos en el análisis de las startups más exitosas, así como en el desarrollo de incubadoras y aceleradoras. A través del análisis de casos de éxito se evidencia el impacto global de las startups coreanas y cómo estas, a su vez, son el resultado tangible de políticas nacionales de innovación efectivas y de una profunda transformación económica. Finalmente, se discuten las tendencias en el ecosistema de startups de Corea y las lecciones que podrían servir como modelo de mejores prácticas y de posible inspiración para la formulación de políticas y estrategias de innovación en otras regiones como América Latina, en busca de potenciar su ecosistema emprendedor.
